MAJESTIC

“THE DEVIL DANCER” TO-MORROW To-night is the last and only night on which “Diamond Handcuffs” and the brilliant supporting programme will be presented to Majestic patrons. Tho Majestic Theatre will present to-morrow another superb pictorial programme of attractions, headed by an interesting and charming scenic, entitled “Sunshine City—Auckland,” Many well-known buildings aroun i Auckland City are shown, and some scenes of departed glory are seen in St. Thomas’s ivied walls, modern min* arets in St. Matthews, the historic landmark, Auckland’s old windmill, whose “waving arms beflay the xnornlng breeze,”" a lingering landmark of old days. One Tree Hill, the historic Acacia Cottage, the first home of Sir John Logan Campbell, and enchanting views of sunset on the haicour. Snapshots, an intimate picture showinS we ll-known film stars as Conrad Nagel, Claire Windsor, Lon Chanev and Constance Talmadge, as weß as many others at the studio, a merry C °Tur * Youth ” together with a Majestic News, with scenes of latest events in England and America, arc inCll iSs d on the su PPorting programme. wr T X lie T^ hief Pictorial attraction will be The Devil Dancer,” a sjory of Tibet, nigh in the Himalayas north of India, where Nature has conspired with man to create God’s cruelest country. “The Devil Dancer” is a starring vehicle for Gilda Gray and the always adept Fred Niblo has woven the story so deftly as to retain the last atom of plot values, at the same time permitting full sway to the dancing art of tiv* ever popular Gilda. Her “devil dance” is a new Gray creation which in itself should prove magnet. This alone, however, will not be tho sole charm of the picture for her characetrisation of “Takla.” the white dancer of Lhrftsa. Tibet, is beautifully done. Clive Brook, the always capable, is the other side of a daring escape, a charming romance and a melodramatic rescue simply oris+ling with thrills, A high-class musical programme will be provided by Mr. Whiteford Waugh’s Majestic Orchestra. “Saragossa” (Gruenwald) will be played by these musicians as the interlude, and a delightfully bright incidental musical programme will be presented. “MOTHER MACHREE” AT BRITANNIA Poignant drama, whimsical humour, a superlative - cast and scenes from old Ireland that intrigue the imagination, mark “Mother Machree,” which is now being shown at the Britannia Theatre. And just as tho song has stirred the hearts of the world for a score of years so, too, the picture bids fair to become as well loved as the great lyric. From the first scenes in Ireland where the mother, played with sympathetic understanding by Belle Bennett, thinks only how she may save her son from his sordid, crushing environment, to the time of the Great War in America, the story sweeps forward with the power of an epic. “Fools for Luck,” one of the best comedies by W. C. Fields and Chester Conklin, will also be shown.
