PEDIGREE CATTLE ARRIVE
JERSEYS FROM CANADA Ten pedigree jerseys, valued at approximately £B,OOO, arrived at Auckland this morning from Canada on the motor-ship Hauraki. Consigned to Mr. E. Griffith, a dairy farmer of New Plymouth, the animals were purchased from a private breeder in Toronto, Canada. Of the number five are bulls, and all stood up to the voyage very well. They were accommodated in stalls aft. The greater part of the trip across the Pacific was made in fine weather, and not till noon yesterday did the vessel encounter anything in the nature of stormy weather. Strong northerly and north-westerly winds 100 miles off Cuvier Island delayed the vessel’s arrival by several hours, but the storm was not felt after the Hauraki reached the shelter of the coast last evening. The owner did not disclose the sum paid for the animals, but it was hinted that they were worth 4,000 dollars each in the States. An attendant travelled with the animals, which will probably be shipped to New Plymouth tomorrow.
