SEVEN FRAUD CHARGES
YOUNG MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO BE SENTENCED TO-MORROW Pleading guilty to seven charges of obtaining money and goods by means of valueless, cheques, Jack Aubrey Cecil Rodgers, .aged 23, was remanded at the Police Court torday, to be sentenced to-morrow. Rodgers obtained £ll 8s 2d in money,- and goods to the value of £ 4 17s 9a in the course of his operations with the cheque-book, which, according to Chief-Betective Hammond, he got frotn an Auckland bank. “He opened* an account with a deposit of £5 drew' the money out the same day£%|SU4 Mr. Hammond, “having in the meantime obtained a cheque-book.” Rodgjars.. also admitted stealing a gold watch and. chain valued at £2O. which he -sold to a. dealer for £.2 10s. He scoured a further £22 by representing to- Claude Thomas Kindley that he was going to purchase a firewood business and wanted assistance. The Rev.' Charles Chandler 'isked for leniency on behalf of accused, who was a young man with a decided v/°akn«for drink.. Rodgers, was remanded in order that the probation officer, Mr. W. J. Campbell, ■ could- prepare, a report on him.
