They were driving across a level crossing in a motorcar, when a train crashed into their vehicle.—A.P.A.-U.S. FATAL PRISON FIRE.—An outbreak of fire occurred in a dormitory at the State prison, Junction City, Ohio, on Saturday night. There were 270 prisoners asleep in the room at the time. It is reported that six of the men were burned to death. —A.P.A.U.S SECRET RADIO PLANT.—Detectives from Paris discovered a very powerful wireless station in the depths of the forest at Eze. It is alleged to have been used by anti-Fascist opponents of Signor Mussolini, Prime Minister of Italy. An Italian named Bertini, the station manager, has been ar-rested.—A.P.A.-U.S. EXPLOSION ON TRAIN.—The Allahabad express was approaching Bombay yesterday when an explosion occurred in one of the carriages. Three people were killed and eight others were injured. The occurrence is most mysterious as there was no gas-holder beenath the carriage, which was lighted by electricity.—-United Service. GENERAL OF MARINES.—The appointment is gazetted of LieutenantGeneral Lewis S. T. Halliday, Adjut-ant-General, Royal Marines, as General, Royal Marines. General Halliday won the Victoria Cross for bravery during an attack on the British Legation at Peking about 28 years ago when he was dangerously wounded.— British Official Wireless. NEARING 300 M.P.H.—Flight-Lieut-enant David d’Arcy Greig. who is shortly to try and beat the air speed records, made another trial flight on Sunday in his Supermarine Napier plane. He easily attained a speed of 298 miles an hour. Although he was only in the air half an hour the new plugs in the engine were so heavily carboned that they had to be scrapped. —A. and N.Z.-P.A.
