PATRIOTIC GRANT DOUBLED ONEHUNGA COUNCIL MEETS In response to the Onehunga Borough Council’s request, the Auckland Patriotic Association has agreed to increase its contribution from £SOO to £I,OOO for the improvement of the recreation reserve. The Public Works Department also intimated at a meeting of the council last evening that a grant had been made up to 2,037, subsidising £ for £ the Patriotic Association’s contribution toward the above relief works. Or. E. Morton forwarded his resignation as a member of the Streets Committee, and Cr. T. Moor was appointed in his place. In response to the council’s request. Inspector Mcllveney wrote to sav that he had instructed the local police to deal with unlicensed hawkers. A legal opinion as to the responsibility of maintaining the boundary roads between the borough and the One Tree Hill district was referred to the council in committee. The tender of Mr. W. J. s. Osborne was accepted for the installation of electric light in the council’s Hillsborough residence. The Manukau Yacht Club took exception to the Mayor’s statement in regard to its promised donation toward the Cornwallis wharf, not having beeif received by the council. The Mayor said the yacht club had carried out its promise His remarks had referred to the failure of the cruising club to provide its quota toward the wharf. The district fund account is £1 103 in credit. A vote of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Mr. John Simpson. an ex-councillor. On the motion of Cr. Stoupe, chairman of the waterworks committee, it was decided to purchase a set of static condensers for the waterworks engines, at a cost of £3OO.
