WIN FOR RAMULUS ( United P.A. — By Telegraph — Copyright) SYDNEY, Saturday. The Australian Jockey Club’s spring meeting was concluded at Kandwick to-day in fine, warm weather, and there was an attendance of 45,000. The race track was in capital order. The racing lacked the interest of the previous three days of the meeting, due to the absence of many high-class performers, Limerick’s withdrawal from the Kandwick Plate disappointed large numbers of racegoers, who were anxious to see the contest between the New Zealand champion and Winalot. Bacchus created a surprise by defeating Winalot in the weight-for-age race. Hamulus, who went out favourite in the Clibborn Stakes, completely outclassed the opposition. The following are the details of the racing: CANONBURY STAKES, A sweepstake of £ls each, with £I,OOO added; for two-year-olds; 5 fur. COMANCHE (R. L. de Percy), br c, by The Verderer—Forest Band, PAY PAIX (Mrs. S. Batro). br f, 8.6 2 REGLE D’OR (G. Spurway), br c, 8.5 3 Sixteen started. Pay Paix was first away from Accepted. Gladioli and Lady woodville. Turning for home Pay Paix was in charge, ahead of Shekels. Gladioli. Lady Woodville and Regie D’Or. Finishing fast Comanche challenged the leaders and gained the verdict by a length and ahalf. Time. 1.21. WAVERLEY HANDICAP, A sweepstake of £5 each, with £I.OOO added; 1| miles. FONDANT (W. Fondant quickly ran to the front and acted the role of pacemaker from Nan Kourgan, Sunflare and Octember. Fondant led into the straight from The Pied Piper and Octember, and gained the verdict by three-quarters of a length. Time. 3.1. CHESTER HANDICAP, A sweepstake of £lO each, with £I.OOO added; 6 fur. Violian was first away from Whitta, Good Stead and King's Arms. Passing the half-mile post Whitta had charge ahead of Remora. Golden Voice and Violian. The latter took charge at the distance from GoMen Voice, with Bonnie Marjorie t finishing fast. In an exciting finish Bonnie Marjorie got up in time to snatch a victory by half a head. Time. 1.131. DOWLING STEEPLECHASE. A sweepstake of £2 each, with £6OO added; about 3 miles. GREY KNIGHT (McDonald and Hoysled), gr g. by Lord Fitzroy—Glad Eye, 9.10 1 MAILMAN (A. Waugh), b g, aged. 10.0 2 GUNLIKE (C. H. Cassidy), b g, aged, 9.0 3 Seven started. Chandonia and Nameerah led over the first jump from Mendit, Flipbern and Grey Knight. Racing away from the field Chandonia and Nameerah established 40 lengths lead. At the foot of the hill the last time round Chandonia lost his rider. At the next jump a similar fate overcame Nameerah. leaving Grey Knight and Mailman to fight out the finish. Grey Knight prevailed by four lengths. Time, 6.354. RANDWICK PLATE, A sweepstake of £lO each, with £2,500 added; weight-for-age; 2 miles. BACCHUS (W. Kelso), br g, 6yrs. by Magpie—Malt Litssie. 9.4 1 WINALOT (E. K. White), ch c. 4yrs, 9.0 2 JOCELYN (J. S. Brunton). blk m. 4yrs. 8.9 3 Also Started. —Spearfelt, 9.7, and Valamita, 9.7. Commencing at a slow pace Spearfelt led the field from Winalot, Valamita, Jocelyn and Bacchus following. They continued to run in that order up the straight, where Winalot assumed control from Spearfelt, Jocelyn, Valamita and Bacchus. The latter challenged the
winner at the distance, and in a close finish gained the verdict by a head. Time, 3.274CLIBBORN STAKES, A sweepstake of £lO each, with £I,OOO added; for three-year-olds; special weights with penalties; 1 mile. RAMULUS (J. E. and C. H. Brien). br c, by Rossendale—Royal Pet, 8.7 1 SOLITAS (J. Collin and F. FoulshamJ, ch c, 8.12 2 SIR CHRYSTOPHER (H. R. Munro). gr g, 8.4 3 Also. —Coercion and Vettoy. Sir Chrystopher acted as pacemaker from Ramulus, Coercion and Solitas. Turning for home Ramulus joined Sir Chrystopher ahead of Coercion and Solitas. Ramulus took charge at the distance and won with ease by two lengths. Time, 1.382. FINAL HANDICAP, A sweepstake of £lO each, with £I,OOO added; 14 miles. SPRUIKER (W. Kelso), blk g, syrs, by Magpie—Bronze Hook, 8.9 . . .. 1 GALADEER (T. C. Trautwein), ch h, Syrs, 8.6 2 DOLOMITE (J. Constable), br h. syrs, 7.3 3 Eleven started. Dolomite acted as pacemaker right up to the distance, with Vallino, Sallie Blue and Spruiker next, Spruiker then took charge at the distance and won comfortably by two lengths. Time, 2.64.
