LONDON POLICE CHANGES ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER (Australian and N.Z . Press Association) LONDON, Saturday. It is reported that Sir Wyndham Childs, Assistant-Commissioner of Metropolitan Police and head of the Criminal Investigation Department, is to retire next month, following his chief, Sir William Horwood, Commissioner, who is to retire on November 6. Viscount Byng will succeed Sir William Horwood, so that a complete change will be effected in the administration of the London police organisation. The Home Secretary, Sir William Joynson-Hicks. is now searching for a new Assistant-Commissioner. Major-General Sir Wyndliam Childs has been Assistant-Commissioner Metropolitan Police since 1921. He was born in December, 1876. He entered the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. 1900; was captain in the Royal Irish Regiment, 1910; brevet major, 1912; major Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infanry, 1915; brevet lieu-tenant-colonel, 1917; colonel. 1919; briga-dier-general, 1916; temporary majorgeneral, 1917; staff captain at the War Office. 1911-14; assistant adjutant,general, 1916; director of personal services. War Office. 1916-19; deputy adjutant-general to the forces. 1919-21.. He served in the European War and retired in 1022. He was created K.C.M.G., 1919, and K.8.E., 1921.
