IRON GIRDERS TWISTED

WOOL STORE WRECKED Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. A heavy north-west gale blew during the week-end at Lyttelton, and the force of the wind wrecked a large wool store in course of erection for the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company. The damage will probably exceed £I,OOO. The force of the gale at Lyttelton yesterday was sufficient to snap the heavy beams and twist the iron girders at the wrecked wool shed. In some places even the concrete foundations were torn up. Some of the remaining framework will have to be dismantled owing to its badly twisted state before any reconstruction work can be carried out. The contractor will be a heavy loser. The flood in the Waimakariri River is expected IV reach its peak at midnight, when the incoming tide will back up the flood waters. RIVERS RISE 28 FEET RAIN IN CENTRAL OTAGO Press Association DUNEDIN, To-day. Heavy rains in the back country of Central Otago have put both the Clutha and Kawarau Rivers in high flood, the latter having risen 28 feet in three days. The Cromwell Development Company’s works on the Kawarau River were thrown out of commission by a wide break in the main race, about three chains of the outside wall being carried completely away. Repairs will be costly. Fla in has now ceased and both rivers had fallen two feet by 9 ( o’clock this morning.
