“Q SHIPS”
EPIC OF THE WAR FILMED The idea of equipping merchant ships as war vessels, and sending them out under their original inno-cent-looking guise to cope with submarine warfare first occurred to three naval men as they sat in an old - fashioned public house in a remote English port. Little did they dream that their idea would eventually be the salvation of Britain’s food supplies coming from overseas, and would very effectively scare the German submarines. The romance of how the idea gradually took practical shape, and the thrilling battles of the ships thus equipped is now being reproduced in “Q Ships/’ to be released by British Dominions Films. Apart from the thrills which the reconstruction of the facts connected with the “Q Ships” will give patronp, it is understood that the film will also contain many strong dramatic moments. Earl Jellicoe himself appears in the picture in the reconstruction of the incidents which toox place at his meeting with Admiral Sims. Earl Jellicoe has himself seen the section of the film in which he makes his screen debut, and has approved of it. William Craft, to whom credit goes for the direction of Tryon’s farcecomedy successes, “Painting the Town.” “Hot Heels,” “A Hero for a Night,” and “Fresh Every Hour/* has renewed his contract with Universal for a number of years. Casting has been completed on the Universal Special by Rupert Hughes. “The Girl on the Barge.” In addition to Jean Hersholt, Sally O’Neill and Malcolm MacGregor, Edward Sloman has chosen Francis Robertson, a stage Player who has never before essayed the films, Henry West, who appeared in “Speedy” ar.4 “Anybody Here Seen Kelly.” George Offerman. jun .
