KNOWS HIS SWEETS

MANUFACTURER’S VISIT MR. THOMAS POOLE ARRIVES One of the outstanding figures in the confectionery industry of Australia, Mr. Thomas Poole, arrived by the Niagara to-day, and intends spending a fortnight in New Zealand before proceeding to Australia. Air. Poole is general manager of James Stedman-Henderson’s Sweets, Ltd., sole manufacturers of “Minties.” His rise to his present position reads as a romance in the industrial world. Arriving in Australia from England in 1909 he started right at the bottom of the lad-

der, and by sheer ability and determination reached the position he now holds.

His firm has opened a factory in Graham Stret, Auckland, manufacturing for the New Zealand market, and employing New Zealand labour and material, only going abroad for those necessities that cannot be obtained in New Zealand. Air. Poole’s interests cannot truly be said to be divided between Australia and New Zealand. During his tour abroad he has made a close study of the manufacturing methods employed in other parts of the world, and this knowledge will ho of inestimable value in the future progress of industry.
