SMITHFIELD PRICES Under date October 5 the London Office of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board cabled the following resume of prices averaged in the Smithfield market during the week ended at that date:— New Zealand Wethers and Maidens. — Canterbury quality, selected brands, 561 b and under, 7 3-8 d per lb; 571 b to 641 b, 7 l-8d; 651 bto 721 b, 6 7-Bd. Other brands, 561 b and under, 7 l-8d; 571 b to 641 b, 7d; 651 b to 721 b, 63d. New Zealand Ewes.—64lb and under, 5Jd. New Zealand Lambs. —Canterbury quality, 361 b and under, 10id; 371 b to 421 b, 10id; 431 b to 501 b, 93d; seconds, 9 3-Bd. Selected brands, 361 b and under, 10 l-8d; 371 bto 421 b, 10 l-Bd. Other brands, first quality, 361 b and under, lOd; 371 b to 421 b, 10d; second quality. 301 b to 321 b, average, 9 3-Bd. - New Zealand Beef.—Ox fores, 4d; hinds, s£d; cow fores, 3£d; hinds, sd. Argentine Chilled Beef.—Ox fores, 4 3-8 d; hinds, 6 5-Bd. Frozen Pork.—Porkers, 601 b to 801 b, 7id; 811 b to 991 b, 74d; 1001 b to 1201 b, 7*d; baconers, 1211 b to 1801 b, 7&d. Lamb and Mutton. —The market is dull and depressed by heavy pitchings of Home-killed meat.
Beef.—The market is quiet, but steady. New Zealand Porker Pigs.—The market is easier owing to heavier supplies of Home-killed. New Zealand Baconer Pigs.—Stocks are exhausted. Nominal prices.
