CANBERRA MEMORIAL
COROMANDEL GRANITE OFFERED An offer to present a five-ton block of Coromandel granite to be built into the proposed Australian War Alemorial which will shortly be erected at Canberra, has been made by Air. R. R. Hunt, proporietor of the Coromandel Granite Quarries. The idea is to have some permanent expression of the deep comradeship which existed between the Australian and New Zealand troops on Gallipoli and in France during the Great War. The stone is the same as was used for the building of the first storey of the New Zealand Houses of Parliament. Air. Hunt has had a communication from the director of the Australian War Alemorial Committee, thanking him for his offer, and advising him that as soon as the architects have been consulted he will be informed if they can accept the proposal. Should the offer be accepted it is likely that the New Zealand Government will assist in the transport of the stone i:o Australia.
