DRILL HALL BURNED

BAND INSTRUMENTS LOST OUTBREAK AT KAIAPOI Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. Friday. The K-aiapoi Drill Hall was destroyed by fire to-night. The fire had a strong hold in the roof of the building when the alarm was given, and though th* brigade was quickly on the scene, it had little chance of coping with the outbreak. The hall was erected in 1886 by tht Kaiapoi Rifle Volunteers, and was takei over by the Defence Department ir: 1912. The hall was freely used for large public gatherings. The Kaiapoi Band lost music and instruments which were insured for £2OO. A piano and crockery belonging to th< Caledonian Society were also destroyed The piano was insured for £SO. Th* hall also contained rifles, ammunition and uniforms belonging to the Defence Department.
