HIPPODROME
“HORSEMAN OF THE PLAINS”
The story of a champion rider and a plucky Western girl provide an enjoyable entertainment at the Hippodrome Theatre, where Tom Mix's latest picture “Horseman of the Plains” is being shown.
Tom Swift, champion rider and roper is travelling in a leisurely manner to the town fair at Triggertown to represent the Michael O’Day ranch in the obstacle race.
While searching - for the O’Day ranch. Tom sees a young lady gallops by at break-neck speed. Thinking it a runaway, he follows her and succeeds in stopping the horse. Tom is greatly embarrassed to have the young lady denounce him for interfering with her morning exercise. The well-mean-ing comboy continues on his way. Upon arriving at the O’Day ranch he is surprised to find the same young lady is acting as foreman. It develops that she is Dawn O’Day and that the responsibility has fallen on her shoulders due to the illness of her father. Actually', it is a losing battle and the ranch is mortgaged almost beyond its value. When Tom ventures to suggest that managing a ranch is too much for a girl she again misinterprets his intentions and sends him on his way before he has a chance to disclose his identity. “Come to My House/ a society drama starring Olive Borden, is the second feature. Miss Borden plays the role of the high spirited society girl with fire and a deep understanding when she finds that she has. brought sorrow to her fiancee because of her love for another. Antonio Moreno is cast opposite Miss Borden in the romantic lead and Cornelius Keefe is the distraught fiancee. OLD TIME DANCE
Old-time dancing will be indulged in again this evening at the O’Neill Street Hall, Ponsonby. This dance is organised by the Grey Lynn Labour Party and Paltridge’s Orchestra will play. Spot waltz, chocolates, cigarettes and streamers are an added attraction.
