Arbitration Court The Arbitration Court, consisting of Mr. Justice Frazer and Messrs. G. T. Booth and A. L. Monteith, employers’ and employees’ assessors respectively, concluded its Auckland sitting yesterday afternoon. The Court left for Wellington last evening and will begin its session at Dunedin next Friday. * * * Reformative Sentence John Suttie Mclntosh, aged 21, on live charges of obtaining money by valueless cheques, was sentenced to two years’ reformative detention at Dunedin this morning.—P.A. * * * Burned by Hot Dust As a result of a fall into hot limestone dust, John Clark, 36. was severely burned on the face and right arm when cleaning the combustion chamber at the Portland Cement Works, Whangarei. Me was removed to the Whangarei Mospital in a serious condition. * * * Point Chevalier Fire At 1.32 o’clock this afternoon the Point Chevalier Fire Brigade received a call to Walmer Hoad, where a fire had broken out in a wash-house attached to the residence of Mrs. A. Donaldson. The firemen soon had the blaze extinguished. Slight damage was done to the walls of the building. * * * Trains to Stop at Taikirau From next Monday certain trains will stop at Taikirau, a new station between Maromaku and Motatau, north of Whangarei. Express trains will not stop, but the local trains will take up and put down passengers, parcels and small lots of goods. Residents of the district previously made application for the stop which has now been granted by the Railway Department. ♦ * * Spring Brings More Work A decrease in the number of unemployed is shown by figures sunplied by the Labour Department this morning, and more men were placed in work during the past week. A total of 814 men is registered, compared with 856 last week. Of the former number, 685 are classed as fit for heavy work and 129 for light work only. The figures for tho preceding week were 718 and 138 respectively. During the past week 65 men were placed in employment, compared with QA for the week end 5 Seotember 29.
