The Kit Kat Dance Orchestra provided excellent music, and Mr. C. Farquharson controlled the floor. AVONDALE WOMEN MUSICAL AFTERNOON A full report of the last meeting of the National Council of Women was read by Miss Xewton at the montlilv meeting of the Avondale Women’s Club, held, in the Blockhouse Bay picture hall, and a number of remits sent forward for discussion were endorsed. The president, Mrs. Kealy, welcomed a number of visitors from Avondaie. and several new members -were enrolled. In the absence, through illness, of Mrs. Kenneth Gordon, who was to have spoken on “Women in Policies,” the afternoon was devoted to a programme of musical and elocutionary items provided by Mrs. John Pawy, of New Lynn, and Mrs. Douglas McGregor, of Auckland. Mrs. Waygood, of Avondale, was the accompanist. Mrs. E. Armstrong proposed a vote of thanks for the entertainment they had provided at such short notice. Tea was served by Mrs. Macfarlane and Mrs. Lamb, and the usual halfhour of social intercourse was held. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE HENDERSON BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Henderson Women’s Institute (which took the form of an open night) was held on Tuesday evening in the Foresters’ Hail, when there was a large attendance of members and their friends. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Dudley Dorman, who was away on organising work for the institute, the chair was taken by Mrs. Stuart, the vice-president. A debate on “Should Women Enter Parliament?” was conducted by the E.W.A. Mr. Richmond acted as chairman. Mr. Martin, seconded by Mrs. Moore, took the affirmative, and Mr. Atkinson, supported by Mr. Fairburn, took the negative' side. At the conclusion, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the debaters. The hostesses for the evening we e Mrs. Harwood and Mrs. F. Platt. A. LIVE BODY WOMEN’S RESERVE AT THAMES That the Thames Women's National Reserve is a live body, with good organising ability is borne out by the fact that it has given £75 at intervals to the Peace Memorial. Their latest contribution is £lO to the funds of the citizens’ ball held recently for the purpose of lighting the memorial and purchasing a motor-reel for the fire brigade. The surplus from the ball is £63 12s sd, and at the meeting on Monday evening a vote of thanks was passed to Mesdames F. Grubb and C. Rockley for their efforts in raising £27 which helped to swell the receipts. The services of the and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. W. Bongard, were recognised by a vote of appreciation being passed at the meeting.
