MT. ALBERT AMAZON

RANGER SEEKS PROTECTION “EARS SCREWED AND SMACKED” A woman's assurance that she would “get her own back” prompted Harry Gordon Parker, ranger of the Mount Albert Borough Council, to apply for a surety of the peace against Mrs. E. Edwards at the Magistrate's Court this morning. Mr. Terry, who appeared in support of the application, reminded Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., that on October 25 he nad fined defendant for allowing, cattle to wander, appellant having brought the prosecution on behalf of the council. “An hour or so after the fine had been imposed, Mrs. Edwards visited Mr. Parker at the council yards,” said counsel. “She assaulted him and made allegations against his honesty. I know that sounds like the action of an hysterical woman, but there is more behind it than that.” Mr. Hunt: Well, what is it? Counsel: She urges that the prosecution was bogus. Mr. Hunt: You can take action for libel. Counsel: We don’t want to do that, but she certainly assaulted him. “She screwed my ears and smacked my face,” said Mr. Parker in evidence. “Then she accused me of stealing money from her. She said she would get even.” Mr. Hunt: You have heard nothing of her since? Mr. Parker: Nothing. Mrs. Edwards, who did not appear, was bound over to keep the peace iir her own recognisance of £lO.
