LONDON WOOL SALES WEAK, ERRATIC MARKET (Australian and N.Z. Press Association J Reed. 9.30 a.m. LONDON, Thursday. At the wool sales, the final offering comprised 7,9 52 bales, of which 2,744 were Australian and 1,781 New Zealand. There was a miscellaneous selection of all descriptions. Crossbreds were in limited supply, and there was an average selection of slipes. New Zealand.—Reomoana, 27d top, 24;ad average. On the series as a whole, the mark.-,!, was weak and erratic. Competition was slack and inanimate, while withdrawals were heavy. Continental support for Merinos and fine crossbreds improved. During the last week best Merinos and finer crossbreds showed a 7£ per cent, decline, compared with July. Others dropped from 10 to 15 per cent. The Australian strike necessitated a rearrangement of the selling programme. A considerable volume of new wool which was scheduled for sale before Christmas must be carried over the New Year. Bradford shows a slightly improved Lone. Business is small. Quotations: 64’s, 46d; 60’s, 43id; 56’s, 35d; 50 ? s, 29d; 46’s, 24d; 40’s, 23£d. MELBOURNE HIDES SALE Reed. 12.16 p.m. MELBOURNE, To-day. At the hides sales, stints and kips were unchanged. Other grades were id to Id lower. OTOROHANGA STOCK SALE Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Te Kuiti, report having held their usual fortnightly sale at Otorohanga. There was a fair attendance of buyers, and bidding was brisk, the majority of the yarding being sold under the hammer. Sheep came forward in fair numbers and sold at late rates. There was keen competition for store cattle. The firm quotes;— Sheep.—Pat hoggets, 30s to 32s 6d; fat ewes, 37s 6d. MINING NEWS WAIHI—The following information has been cabled to London:—For the period ended September 22, 17,445 tons of ore were crushed for a result of 6,241 fine ounces of gold and 31,444 fine ounces of silver; this includes 1,888 tons of ore mined from the Grand .Junction area, which yielded 8420 z of gold and 8,8400 z of silver. In the No. 9 level, driving west on the Regina section of the reha lode, the first 10 feet is a mixture of quartz and country rock, assaying 3s 9d a ton; eastward, the first five feet, also a mixture of quartz and countryrock lias an assay value of 2s a ton. A crosscut has been started north-east from the Empire lode to prospect for the Dominion lode. In the No. 14 level of the Martha lode a crosscut is in progress at 785 ft east; measuring from the south wall the first 10ft is quartz,, and the next 20ft a mixture of quartzi and country; the assay value is low. In the Edward lode, driving north from the Dunlop crosscut, the next three feet assayed 14s 3d a ton: driving is suspended. Diamond-drilling progress with No. 4 hole is very slow owing to difficult boring.
