When Brotherly Love Does Not Matter
MARION RIDERS TO CLASH The two Morris brothers, L. G. and B. H., will be seen in stern opposition at Ellerslie to-mor-row, and it is expected that they will be the central figures in probably more than one finish. Last Saturday we saw another brother. Mr. J. Morris, ride Moy Hall to victory in the amateur riders’ race, an event that most of those present will not forget for many a long day through the unfortunate contretemps that occurred when a false start was declared. In the Cup In the Mitchelson Cup. L. G. and B. H. Morris will no doubt be very much in the limelight, for the former will be aboard Laughing Prince, while his brother will steer Mask. Both these horses have got through an excellent preparation, and it would occasion little surprise to find them in the fighting line to-morrow. There are no beg pardons when they find themselves in opposition over the final bit of a race. It is strictly business; the brotherly love follows when it is over. Neither will be riding in the first race, a hurdle contest, although L. G. has many victories in important hurdle and steeplechase events, while B. H. has been known to possess a safe seat when following the Rangitikei hounds. The Classic Then in the second race, the Guineas, L. G. will be on the very speedy Cashier, while B. H. will be on the favourite, Episode (unless White Wings ousts her from that position on the strength of yesterday’s gallop). One is inclined to the view that so far we have not seen the best of Cashier; he may be one of the surprise packets of the classic. In the Shorts they will probably find themselves on horses that will require some tuning up—Commendation and Lysander. It is probable that L. G. will be on the jockey’s stand during the Welcome Stakes playing the part of critic upon B. H.’s handling of Ceremony. B. H. may also be on Storm Fiend in the Gordon Handicap, but it is not known yet whether either will be riding in the Flying.
