AGAINST SECRECY
NAVAL COMPROMISE FRANCE URGES PUBLICATION (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (United Service) Reed. 1.55 p.m. PARIS, Tuesday. A semi-official announcement after M. Briand had reported to Cabinet regarding the conversations between Paris and London says that the British Government, after deliberation, objects to the publication of the Anglo-French naval agreement until the Italian and Japanese Governments, which so far have only sent provisional replies, made their definitive viewpoints known. The announcement continues that, in full agreement with his colleagues, M. Briand is going to urge on London the desirability of speeding up this publication, which is held necessary to dispel all misunderstandings at Washington. The French Ambassador to London has been instructed to make fresh representations. M. Briand is likely merely to acknowledge the United States’ last Note, leaving international experts to resume the discussion at the proper time. The French Cabinet has decided unanimously that it is necessary to publish the next naval compromise, subject to the approval of Britain, which will he sought instantly.
