“RAMONA” A notable and popular season is being recorded by “Ramona,” the beautiful film, which is now nearing the end of its second week of screening at the Strand Theatre. It is a heart-stirring photoplay that makes one the victim of conflicting emotions. Tender pity, fierce resentment, outraged justice battle within as each member of the audience lives the tragic romance of the little halfbreed girl whose hours of love and '‘Paradise” pass so shortly. It is one that tugs at the heartstrings, and becomes more potent and intimate through the delicate artistry of Dolores Del Rio, who paints the character of “Ramona” in a way which outdoes any other dramatic effort of the year. The first half of the picture is a beautiful love story of Alessandro and Ramona. The last half is a tale of suspense in which the child of Ramona dies, the bandits burn the Indian village, massacre the men, women and children, and steal the cattle. The death of Alessandro brings about the climax of the thrilling story, and there follows Felipe’s search, the finding of Ramona and her return to happiness at the home of her childhood. Eve Bentley’s Strand Symphony Orchestra plays a high-clas musical programme featuring a medely overture. A merry Our Gang comedy, “It’s a Bear,” a unique Mature Study film. “Concerning Bills,” and the interesting Strand Magazine are on the programme. from an acute attack of first-night nervousness, but after he had conquered that he swung into his part with a steady increase in purpose. One never felt too sure whether he was a particularly polished detective or an exceedingly fascinating crook, but that was his part, -which he played with dignity. Miss Titheradge really has one of the best parts in the play. It should sparkle with the adroit situations supplied by the author and it bristles with untold possibilities if handled properly. Mr. Souper gave a sound interpretation of a small role. Mr. Millard, Mr. Cornell and Mr. Millar figured in the smaller parts. “Other Men’s Wives” will sparkle for the rest of this week.
