GYMNASTIC DISPLAY
Y.M.C.A AT SCOTS HALL The Y.M.C.A. presented its annual display of gymnastics and physical drill before a large audience in Scots Hall last evening. The Leaders* Corps, under the direction of Mr. Frank Rogers, gave demonstrations of apparatus gymnasium and tho younger members of the association performed physical training acts. There were several variety acts on the programme, including "Fun in a Fire Station, ** Matt Hatton in a boxing demonstration, fancy club-swing-ing and acrobatic tricks. The programme was as follows: Open tableau of boys and men; grand parade; chair balancing; dumb-bell exercises by boys under 11 years; acrobatics on the flying rings; bar-bell exercises; control marching; trick somersaulting; drill for boys over 11 years; boxing by Matt Hatton and a partner: scientific club swinging; horizontal-bar acts; "Fun in a Fire Station"; parallel-bar acts; tableaux by boys; electric fancy club -swinging; and gymnastics on the "long horse." Tho programme, with slight variations, will be repeated this evening. REVUE NEXT WEEK CHANGE AT ST. JAMES The Nat Phillips Revue Company will open at the St. James Theatre next Monday, after the final of the grand opera season. The first revue will be entitled "Whirligigs," and the company is well known because it includes the popular comedians known as "Stiffy and Mo." "Stiffy’s” clowning gets the laughs in almost equal proportion to "Mo’s facility for making fun out of the smallest incident, spontaneous, and without the slighest suggestion of forced humour. On the same programme are several enjoyable turns distinct in themselves, one of the best being the Charlston Symphonic Six, a jazz band which Provides some excellent numbers. The cast of revue artists includes Amy Rochelle, Jack Kelleway, Peter Brooks, Daisy Merrett, Sadie Gale, Dan Weldon, Dan Dunbar and Sylvia Gardner, and the Radio Six, the “Whirligigs" well-trained ballet. Booking arrangements are advertised. The cast of "The Light Woman," starring Benita Hume, has just returned to England from Spain, where most of the picture was screened. An exact reproduction of a famous Spanisn night club was built at the Gainsborough studios, however, to enable the film to be completed.
