AGAINST SUNDAY EXCURSIONS
DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY’S PROTEST (Special *o THE SUK) DUNEDIN, Wednesday. Sunday excursions were condemned strongly at the last meeting of the Dunedin Presbytery. Dr. Merrington, chairman of the Public Questions Committee, moved “that the Presbytery of Dunedin observes with regret that the Railways Department proposes to run a Sunday excursion train to Lawrence for the purposes of sight-seeing, ar.d the Presbytery further expresses its strong disapproval of the extension of the public services for excursions on Sundays.” In 1925 a deputation w aited on th-a Minister of Railways, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, who assured them that no extension would be given to running Sunday trains. Copies of the resolution will be forwarded to the Prime Minister and to members of Parliament.
