Insurance Clerk's Thefts Samuel Ansley McKay, aged 21, an insurance clerk, pleaded guilty at the Wellington Magistrates Court to fori. ing and uttering two cheques valued at £l4. and stealing an assurance statement and three other cheques to the total value of £l9 8s lid. He wacommitted for sentence.—P.A. Escaped Prisoner Sentenced A sentence of throe months’ imprisonment with hard labour was imposed on Gerald Swanson, a labourer, aged 2 . who admitted having escaped trom the Mount Crawford prison on September 30. The sentence will bo served at the expiration of the three years* imprisonment which Swanson is now serving Lacerated Thumb While working this morning on the Auckland Harbour Board’s dredg. which is undergoing annual overhaul and survey at Prince’s Wharf. J. Gal. of the Sailors’ Home, had his thurm* badly lacerated. It was caught in a grindstone and dislocated. He was taken to hospital b\ tho Si. John Ambulance. Child's Body Found The body of a child. Jimmy .Morgan, aged live, who was drowned in the Mann wa tu River at Whirokino on September 5. was found by a fisherman a short distance from the scene of the fatality this morning. The body of the native, Kemp, who was drowned at the Manawatu Heads on Saturday, is still missing.—I*.A. Died Before Operation Mary Cunningham, a married woman of 40. collapsed at the Gore Hospital before undergoing an operation. At the inquest the doctor’s evidence showed that death was due to heart failure, contributing causes being septic poisoning, due to pneumonia, and other complications. A verdict in accordance with the doctor’s evidence was returned. Deceased leaves seven young children.
