PROCEEDINGS AGAINST COUNCIL
buildings in cathedral SQUARE ATTORNEY-GENERAL NOT TAKING ACTION Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. The statement that the AttorneyGeneral has notified the Mayor of Christchurch of his intention to initiate proceedings against the Christchurch City Council in regard to buildings in Cathedral Square is incorrect. No such notification has been fiiven. It is unusual for the AttorneyGeneral to take any active port in the conduct of actions of this kind.
To enable an individual to take action, he must suffer some personal loss in excess of that suffered by The general public. Where this is not so, the action must be in tho name of alTd with the consent of the AttorneyGeneral. All th.it has happened so far in regard to the Christchurch case is that a firm of solicitors has written to the Attorney-General, and a reply has been sent that on the receipt of eertain further information the matter will be considered.
