GENEROUS PEER

£125,000 FOR HOSPITAL

LORD WOOLAVINGTON’S GIFT (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United P.A.—By Telegraph, Copyright J (United Service) Reed. 11.50 a.m. LONDON, Tues. Lord Woolavington has given the Middlesex Hospital £125,000 in memory of his wife. The gift will enable the provision of accommodation for middle-class patients who pay a flat rate. It will cover maintenance and operation costs, but no profits will accrue to the hospital from the fees paid. The doctors will assess these in accordance with the financial conditions of each patient. Lord Woolavington has also given £50,000 for the restoration of St. George’s Chapel at Windsor.

Sir James Buchanan, chairman of the distillery firm of James Buchanan and Co., Ltd.,, was created Baron Woolavington in 1922. His wife, whom he married in 1892 and who died in 1918, was formerly Miss Anne Pounder. Lord Woolavington has no heir.
