FORMER GOVERNOR AS POSTAL CLERK Living at Wellington Press Association WELLINGTON, Tuesday. In the Wellington Post Office employed as a casual clerk is General Boris Merlin, one time Governor of Eastern Siberia, a victim of the Bolshevik misrule. Merlin was born at St. Petersburg pages educated at the Staff Military College. He served in the RussoJapanese war after which he was given charge of the British Indian section on the Grand General Staff at St. Petersburg. He states there never was any foundation for the scares that Russia intended to invade India. He was over five years in Tokyo/'on the Russian Ambassadorial staff and on his own horse won the Tokio Derby. In 1913 he was appointed to the Russian Embassy in London. He used to ride in Rotten Row daily, his most constant companian being the Duke of Connaught. Merlin was a member of 12 exclusive clubs in London. In January, 1924, Jie was sent on a mission to Bucharest, where he met the notorious Prince Carol of Rumania. He was Governor of Eastern Siberia when forced to flee.
