Lost — The Paisley Pattern — Crazy Designs Favoured

This summer will be a vivid one, ; if from no other cause than the gaily printed and patterned squares, triangles, or long, narrow pieces of material which will be wom for every daytime occasion around the shoulders or neck of pretty summer frocks. Tu all patterns and designs the new scarf conies to us this season. Few' girls choose to wear the old-time straight strip of material which folded round the throat and fell in floating ends dowm the front of the frock. When these are woru they are caught iuto the centre of the throat by distinctive clasps of gold, silver, or near real pearls. But the latest scarves are triangular. The material is cut on the cross and bordered with the colour which shows most distinctly throughout the pattern. A navy and crimson patterned scarf w ill depend for its smart, effect on the vivid crimson border,

about four inches wide, of the plain material. Yellow Popular All shades of orange and gold, which will be so popular this summer, are repeated in the new scarves. On one printed in gold half-crown spots on a white background, the wide gold border gives a cool effect to the summer frock of white crepe de chine with its tiny tucks and hand-drat£Q threads. Strangely enough, the popular old paisley pattern sems to have missed out entirely in the minds of the scarf designers. Crazy floral patterns are there in profusion. So are futuristic designs reminiscent of Tutankhamen gone mad. But the neat little rather old-maidish design, in which so many colours were blended into one beautiful whole, has gone the way of so many fashion creations designed for the pleasure of woman.
