A.t a meeting of the Ohura branch t { the Plunket Society Mrs. Uuodwin, %bo was the local representative at general conference in Wellington, gave a most interesting talk on the V ork of that gathering. Mrs. Doughty also attended the conference as the representative of the Taumurunui branch, which was unable to send a delegate direct.
A dance at Matiere in aid of the yootba.ll Club was well supported, and the building was delightfully decorgtedL Music was provided by The Row-Tie Four, and extras given by 3lessrs. W. Margun and D. uongley vrre appreciated. Mr. Gibson, secretary of the club, was M.C.
Owing to the illness of his wife, Mr. H. Brown, who for a number of years has been editor of the “Waimarino County Call,” has removed to Rotorua.
The final euchre tournament in aid 0 £ the Kakahi Anglican Church resulted: Mrs. Hill won the ladies’ aggregate for the season, and also the ladies’ prize for the evening's play. The men’s prize for the season went to Mr. T. Tucker. Mr. A. Watson won the men’s prize for the evening, the consolation going to Miss Ida Siswick and Mr. H. Stevenson. Mr. H. L. Pratt, on behalf of the ladies’ committee, returned thanks to Messrs. Mark and Hedge, who had conducted the tournaments during the winter. It has been announced that the Kakahi School Committee has in view the running of a short series of tournaments in aid of the sports fund of tha school.
At the conclusion of a special Monday patronal service in connection with the Raurimu Anglican Church, a delightful social evening was spent, among those present being Archdeacon Cowie, of Hamilton, the Rev. W. T. F. Skey. vicar of the parish. Musical items were contributed by Miss V. Karum and Miss L. McDonald, and a competition was won by Miss Lind, the consolation prize going thanked all for the support given to the church, and appealed to the parishioners to back up the vicar. Mr. Skey, in returning thanks, stated that this was the first patronal festival of St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, and hoped It would be only the forerunner of many enjoyable evenings. Music for the dancing was supplied by Misses N. and V. Karam, Miss L,. Treanor, and Messrs. N. Karam and H. Hutson.
The Kaitieke Cricket Club’s annual ball attracted a large number of pleasure seekers. In addition to local patrons, many visitors were present from adjacent districts and townships. The Merry Five Orchestra had charge of the musical bill of fare, and gave the dancers of their best. Miss Karam and Mr. Alan Gray won the Monte Carlo waltz. The supper, which had been very generously proby Mesdames J. Waldegravo and VV. Edwards, was a special feature of the gathering. At an appropriate interval Mr. W. Edwards, president of the club, returned thanks to all helpers and supporters.
Miss Z. Mattar gave a merry party to a number of young friends at her parents’ residence, Taumarunui. Games, music and dancing comprised a pleasant programme.
At the Taumarunui Theatre Royal the schools’ annual plain and fancy dress ball was held recently. The decorations and special lighting effects were a feature. The attendance
of both children and adults was very large. Mrs. Hales’s Orchestra supplied the music, ■with Mr. N. Todd in the position of M.C. * * $ Confetti and snowball dances, and other novel features helped to round out a specially jolly dance held at Ohura in aid of the local gymnasium funds. Mr. Gordon and Miss Daley won the waltzing competition, and the Monte Carlo went to Miss Alan and Mr. F. Wright. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Thompson supplied the music, and the duties of M.C. were in the hands of Messrs. Bedell and E. Stuart.
At a delightful social evening in the Ohura School, the committee of the recent queen carnival entertained the school staff, and the committee, and handed over the proceeds of the carnival for the school funds.
