CABARET BALL GIVEN FOR PUPILS The Symondsville Studio was attractively decorated last evening with softly-glowing Japanese lanterns and streamers. The walls were banked with a profusion of spring blossoms and ferns, and bowls of Iceland poppies appeared with bright effect on the supper tables. The occasion was an annual ball given by Miss Spencer for her pupils, whom she received in a gown of leafgreen taffeta hemmed with ivory lace and given added chic by touches of silver embroidery. NAVY LEAGUE MAKES MERRY j DEVONPORT DANCE The Navy League rooms at Levon- j port were very gay with their bright decorations last evening, when the Devonport sub-branch of the Navy League held an ‘‘At Home.” Suspended baskets of delicate fernery mingled with purple wistaria blooms wore used with artistic effect for the decoration of the danee room, and the softly shaded lights with their mauve and yellow tonings shed a mellow glow over the dancers. On the supper tables were slim vases of vivid orange and yellow iceland poppies with touches of ferns. Mrs. R. E. Cleland, president, received the guests wearing a charming frock of sunkist pink crepe faconne, heavily encrusted with beads, and a black and silver shawl. An excellent programme bad been arranged and included items by Mrs-. Rullimore, Miss O. Melville, Miss Raney, Miss Barker, Miss Verran, Major Halloranliam, and Mr. Horricks. LODGE DANCE COURT BALMORAL To celebrate its 100 th meeting, Court Balmoral Lodge (Ancient Order of Foresters) held a social evening in the lodge hall, Dominion Hoad terminus. Among the visitors were sisters of the order from city and suburban lodges, also from Mizpah Lodge (Independent Order of Oddfellows). Musical items were given by Miss Grantham, Miss Wilson, Messrs. DANCE AT PUKEKOHE ANNUAL EVENT HELD BY RUGBY PLAYERS
On Monday evening the Pukckohe followers of the Rugby code held their annual ball, which was largely attended. Music was played by Hulme’s orchestra, and Mr. If. Pleydell was M.C. During the evening the president of the Pukekohe sub-union, Mr. S. P. Day, presented the Hodges Shield, Pollock Cup and photographs to the Power Board team, the winner of the senior competitions, and the Motion Cup to the Ramblers juniors.
