MAJESTIC
“IF I WERE SINGLE” Only two more nights remain for Auckland picturegoers to view the sparkling programme being presented by the Majestic Theatre. Musical and stage attractions, and a brilliant bill of pictorial fare all go to make a notable entertainment. An hilarious Vafi Bibber comedy, “His Favourite Wife,” an interesting and very amusing film, “Lords of the Back Fence,” and the ever-popular Majestic News, are included on the supporting programme. The chief pictorial attraction is “If I Were Single,” starring Ma*y McAvoy and Conrad Nagel. “If I were Single.” is a farcical “take-off” on newlyweds, Miss McAvoy and Nagel portraying bride and groom of a year. Misunderstandings, “white lies” and flirtations lay a complicated plot in which heart-break and comedy alternately hold the limelight. The characters are real people, and the situations are those which occur every day in real life, but their interpretation in this instance crowds a flock of laughs on the screen in spontaneous order. “Gems from the Bohemian Girl” makes a charming stage interlude. The singers are Miss Christina Ormiston, and the Majestic Quartette. The musical entertainment provided by Mr. Whitefqrd Waugh’s Majestic Orchestra, is an entertainment in itself. Byng’s beautiful composition, “A Bay In Naples,” is the orchestral interlude.
On Friday at the Majestic another of that theatre’s incomparable entertainments will be screened. This will be headed by “Diamond Handcuffs,” with Eleanor Boardman and Conrad Nagel in the leading roles.
