SKI CLUB AT RUAPEHU
WEATHER SPOILS TRIP
A small party of members of the Kuapeliu Ski Club returned to Auck- ; land yesterday, after their annual 10 days* visit to National Park. Weather conditions were too bad to hold the annual winter sports, and during the . first four* days of last week continu- j ous rain and snow prevented the party j from going: for any long tramps or climbs. On Friday afternoon, however, the weather improved, and a party set out j for Glacier Hut, which was found late j at night after a ditficult trip. The j main party started to climb Ruapehu I at 5 a.in., the next morning, and j reached the top about 10 o’clock. They found that the Crater Lake was frozen ! over, except for a hole about 20 feet across in the middle. After taking cinematograph pictures they set out j for home, reaching Whakapapa at i p.m. While the party was at Whakapapa * a gang of prisoners arrived and started blasting work on the site of the proposed hostel. Many tests were made to find a suitable rock foundation for the building. -
