NEW OUTBOARD CLUB
NEARLY 50 MEMBERS RACES ON LABOUR DAY A new outboard motor-boat racing dug that bids fair to be one of the largest and most influential in the Dominion held its inaugural meeting last evening. It will be called the New Zealand Outboard Motor-Boat Association (Inc.). Mr. F- J. Fawcett presided. Formed unofficially last Easter, the club now has about 50 members on its register. Many of the best-known outboard men on the Waitemata are members.
It was decided that the club’s season be opened on Labour Day, Monday, October 22. A preliminary race for trying-out speeds will be started at 1 p.m. at Buckland’s Beach. Three other general handicap events will follow. A row-boat race will be considered by the committee- All competitors are required to carry lifebelts or their equivalent. With the exception of championship races all events will be started on the Mark Foy system, that is, boats will be sent away according to handicaps, by coloured flags. Mr. J. S. Dickson was appointed timekeeper and Mr. J. F. Fawcett starter. Mr. Fawcett’s launch Ramona will be flagship. The club pennant is to be maroon, with a gold diamondAnnual subscriptions were fixed at 10s for senior members and 5s for juniors, under 21, and women members. Nomination fees for racing were left over temporarily. Officers for the year are as follow: Patron, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates; president, Mr. J. S. Dickson, M.P-; commodore, Captain Holmes; vicecommodore, Mr. F. J. Fawcett; rearcommodore, Mr. E. G. Elliott; honsecretary. Mr. C. R. Wilson; lion, assistant secretary, Mr. A. R. Townsend; hon- treasurer, Mr. E. Maud; hon. auditor, Mr. L. R. Dickson; general committee, Messrs. L. Stericker, L. Palmer, S. Ford, J. Dickson, F. Hogan, with power to add; racing committee, Messrs. F- J. Fawcett, C. R. Wilson and J. S. Dickson.
