ANCIENT ATHENS

Following a discussion between Professor Capps, the director of the American School of Archaeology in Athens, and officials of the Ministry of Education, an agreement in principle has been reached in regard to excavations on the site of ancient Athens. Under the agreement the American school will be granted a permit to excavate for the present the site between the Theseion and the Stoa of Attalos—namely, about half the extent originally proposed. It is proposed to begin work this year as soon as arrangements have been made for the settlement elsewhere of the occupants of the first twenty houses to be taken over.
