REVUE AND PICTURES _i The Columbia Comedy Company will make their final appearance at the Alexandra Theatre, Green Lane, this evening. This talented company includes the well-known American ventriloquist, Lawrence Johnston, also Sam Stern, churactei’ comedian. Other artists include Sadie Pepper, soubrette, Bessie Whitelaw, soprano, and Gwyllym Jones, Welsh pianiste. Tho pictorial side of the programme is headed by the excellent, romantic story, 'The Whirlwind of Youth,” starring the vivacious little actress, Lois Moran. “THE WARE CASE” The First National British production, ' The Ware Case," is from the extremely popular and clever novel by George F. Bancroft, an absorbing mystery story which has been tremendously successful upon the stage, with George du Maurier in the leading role. Stewart Rome, the most brilliant ol present-dav English film actors, takes du Maurler's role upon the screen, and attains to tho remarkably high standard set him. The dramatic effects of the plot are extremely powerful, the ingenious intricacy of the mystery elements being masterly. Set in magnificent locales —one of the most famous private homes of the world being used for many of the mbre important scenes—the production values surpass anything else yet moduced in America. Betty Carter, an unusually attractive English beauty, Sfays opposite the male star, and does some clover work in the trial scenes. T°m exteriors of the Soutji of France •Tie very beautiful, adding an exotic note to the production. The humour is delightful and refreshing. EMPIRE SHOWS “METROPOLIS” •‘Bringing Up Father,” a comedy based on the well-known newspaper cartoon, will be shown at the Empire Theatre this evening. . . The new picture is a matrimonial mix-up and inter-family fight, Polly San being the wife of a successful but plebian business man, while Mane Dressier, as his sister, is marned to a sundae shop keeper, and does not r*nssess any ’social apirations. p Is the sisters-in-law.
