In tho evening a welcome social will be held in the Sunday school hall. United Party Branch A meeting of friends and supporters of Mr. John S. Fletcher, the. United Party candidate for Grey Lynn, was held at Point Chevalier last night. The candidate addressed the meeting, after which a branch of tho United Party was formed, and a strong committee, under tho chairmanship of Mr. McMillan, was set up to organise the Point Chevalier district. Fall From Horse While taking a short cut through the bush to visit some friends at Avarua, Mrs. M. Wright, of Tautoro. had the misfortune to suffer a compound fracture of the right arm above tho elbow through her horse slipping when going down a hill. Her calls for assistance were heard by her friends, who rendered first aid, and conveyed her to the Kawakawa Hospital, where she is progressing favourably. •* * * Special Race Train* On the day of the Auckland races, October 6 and 8, special .race trains will be run to Ellerslie at frequent intervals during the morning and afternoon. The Auckland-Frankton express will, on October 6. stop at Green Lane and racecourse siding and on October 8 a special train will be run to l'rankton. The times of the Auckland-Whangarci trains have also been changed to suit racegoers. Further particulars may bo obtained at railway stations.
