The Australian Jockey Club’s spring meeting Avas continued at Randwick to-day in fine weather, when there Avas an attendance of 65.000. The race track Avas in splendid order, and owing to ideal Aveather conditions fast times AA'ere the order of the day. Greenline Avon the Shorts Handicap in smart time (1.102). The New Zealand gelding Gold Tinge, outclassed the youngsters in the Breeders’ Plate, acting as pacemaker throughout, and he was going away from the field at the winning postIn the decision of the Metropolitan Stakes the NeAv Zealand mare Oratrix was running in fifth place at the head of the straight. She finished brilliantly and was overhauling Jocelyn at the winning post. In the Grantham Stakes Roscrea appeared to be a likely winner at the top of the straight, but failed in the final strides to Avithstand the challenge of Solitas. Boonala fell in contesting the Squatters’ Handicap, and his injuries were so serious that he had to be destroyed. Details of the racing: SHORTS HANDICAP Of £lO each, with £I,OOO added; 6 furlongs. Gold Tinge led the field, followed by Molyan, Camanche, Peacemaker, Mareayan and Marco March, and the New Zealand gelding, increasing his lead at the distance, he won comfortably by four lengths. When the field settled down Lord Kennaquhair had charge from Sharp Son, Valparaiso and Oratrix. Passing out of the straight Lord Kennaquhair increased his lead to two lengths, with Sharp Son, Donald, Valparaiso, Rionscup and Jocelyn as his closest attendants. At the half-mile post Valparaiso assumed conacomand, and led into the straight from Jocelyn. The latter took the lead at the distance, at which point Sharp Son and Mid Kent were most prominent, with Oratrix finishing fast. Passing the stand for the first time Garnock was in charge, with Repose. Tressady Rock. Chandonia and Grey Knight next in that order. Along the back Chandonia took charge, and thereafter was not headed, winning by two lengths. Time, 4.31 (Randwick course record). Tressady Rock unseated his rider at the three furlongs post. GRANTHAM STAKES A sweepstakes of £6 each, with 1,000 added; for three and four-year-olds; 1 mile and a furlong. SOLITAS (Collin and Foulsham’s), ch c, Syrs, by Chryolaus—Eulita. 8.9 1 LEADLIGHT (C. H. Kemp’s), b h. 4yrs, 8.9 2 ROSCREA (H. A. Knight’s), br g. Syrs, 7.13 3 Twelve started, including Concentrate. Saltpan and Roscrea were the first to show out from Yodelist, Solitas and Leadlight. At the half-mile post Saltpan was in command ahead of Roscrea, Amplifier, Solitas and Deadlight. Roscrea assumed command entering the straight from Solitas, Saltpan and Leadlight. Solitas challenged the New Zealander at the distance, with Leadlight close up, and Solitas, going on. gained the verdict by 15 lengths. Time, 1.51. SQUATTERS’ HANDICAP A sweepstakes of £lO each, with £I,OOO added; 1£ miles. VAALS (E. Moss’s), ch h, by Valais— Gal tee Queen, aged, 9.11 1 REONUI (J. Babin’s), b g, syrs, 8.10 2 RESOURCE, 8.3 3 Seventeen started, including First Acre. Reonui was the pacemaker throughout from First Acre, Vaals and Resource. Vaals issued a challenge at the distance, and in an exciting finish gained the verdict over the New Zealand gelding by half a head. Time, 2.4. PERCEPTION’S MISHAP The New Zealand-bred gelding Perception, who changed hands recently, a wealthy Malay planter, Mr- F. Gore, purchasing him at a high price, was narrowly defeated on Saturday, and the opportunity to make amends in the Grantham Stakes yesterday miscarried when it was found the horse was suffering from nasal haemorrhage, causing his withdrawal. Gold Tinge, the New Zealand winner of the two-year-old classic, gave J. Munro-an easy ride. He is described as a regular galloping machine. Another New Zealander, Peacemaker, finished third. J. Munro's fee for Gold Tinge’s mount is £IOO. The well-known suburban performer, Boonala, had to be destroyed after falling in the Squatters’ Handicap. JOCKEY CRITICISED PRINCE HUMPHREY AND MOLLISON TO MEET AGAIN (United .1.- Telegraph — Copyright) SYDNEY, Monday. In consequence of criticism which was levelled at the jockey, Daniels, for his handling of Moliison on Saturday, Mr. C. G. Macindoe, owner of Prince Humphrey, says he will take his colt to Melbourne for another meeting with Moliison in the Victorian Derby, as he considers the criticism of Daniels detracts from Prince Humphrey’s win.
