Indians Fight Fanatically During Religious Festival

Reed. 9.20 a.m. DELHI, Sunday. gERIOUS clashes occurred between Hindus and Mohammedans, resulting in a large number ot casualties at the celebration of the Ganpati Hindue festival in centres in the Bombay Province. At Surat and Nasik, several police officers, including Europeans, were injured in attempting to separate these fanatical religious opponents. At Nasik, Hindus attacked a mosque while the Moslems were at prayer. A
mob of 10,000 assembled, and a threatening situation developed, but the crowd was persuaded to disperse. At Surat, the police were forced to open fire and disperse the rioters, who stoned a Hindu procession. There were many casualties, and a tense situation prevails. There was rioting also at Poona, where Moslems refused to obey the police order to disperse, and there was a fracas between Sikhs and Mos lems at Hyderabad, in Deccan, to which place armed troops have been sent.
