CANADIAN TRANSPORTER SAILING. At 5 o’clock this evening the Canadian National Steamships steamer, Canadian Transporter is to be dispatched from Auckland for Montreal, via New York and Boston. She arrived at Auckland on Saturday afternoon from Southern ports, and berthed at Western Wharf to take on oil fuel. This morning she shifted to King’s Wharf to complete loading operations. BRITAIN’S TRADE REVIVAL. —In the House of Commons recently, Sir P. Cun-lifte-Lister, the President of the Board of Trade, gave what he must have considered a very optimistic account of the trade of the country, says ‘Fairplay.” Taking 1924 as a basis at 100, he said that the volume of the total imports retained were: 1913, 94.2; 1924, 100; 1925, 103.9; 1927, 111.3; and the first four months of 1928, 121.7. In the case of retained raw materials the figures are: 1913, 111; 1924. 100; 1925, 106.7; 1927. 113; and the first four months of 1928, 111.8, which, he said, was a rather more satisfactory result than one would have expected in the early period of this year. As regards the volume of our exports, these were: 1913. 131.4; 1924. 100; 1925, 99.3; 1927, 102.3; and the first four months of 1928, 167; but, as regards the export of manufactures, these were: 1913, 132.28; 1924. 100; 1925, 101.5; 1927, 104.4; md in the first four months of 1928, 111.4. It will thus be seen that, so far as volume* is concerned, notwithstanding the great increase in population, we exported over 11 per cent, more in 1913 than w.> do to-day, while our imports have indexed by over 20 per cent
