AT WAVE OF FAIRY’S WAND
ELECTRICITY AT ONEWHERO SWITCHING-ON CEREMONY (Special to THE SUN) TUAKAU, Saturday. Out went the old-time kerosene lamps and on flushed a hundred electric lights as at the wave of the fairy wand of Miss Betty Muir, of Te Kohanga. the power at Onewhero was switched on for the first time last evening. For the switching-on ceremony, residents and local body representatives came from far and near. The member of the County Council for the Onewhero Rid*-*?, Mr. P. G. R Taylor, who presided, said the occasion marked one of the most important events in the history of the Onewhero district. A modern post office, telephone system and a highway through the district had all been attained, and from that evening, would be added the advantages of electricity. Mr. L. W. Keals, the member representing the three Raglan County ridings on the Power Board, said the advent of electricity definitely marked the end of the backblocks days in the district. It would not be long before Pukekawa and Te Kohanga were also reticulated. Mr. J. W. Henderson outlined the steps taken to have the district reticulated.
