ORPHANS’ CONCERT
SAILOR’S ASSIST AT ONEHUNGA A pleasing feature of the final concert of the Onehunga Orphans’ Club on Saturday evening was the recognition by the president, Bro. Robert Buchanan, of the services during the session of Bros. J. T. Lighton, orchestral conductor, Len. Elliott, accompanist, C. A. Osborne, secretary, 1). Kirk-Jones, treasurer, J. Kennedy Ross, chief steward, and A, G. Houldswortb, programme “Reward, each of whom were presented with an appropriate souvenir. Among the big assembly were the Mayor of Onehunga, Mr. W. C. Coldicutt, Bros. Francis, president of the Papakura Club, Bro. J. Gillies, past president, and members of the Otahuhu Club, and a large number of representatives of the Auckland Orphans' Club. Musical items by the following brethren from H.M.S. Dunedin were highly appreciated: Bros. W. Norgrove, George Bennett and J. Pikesley. Bro. J. Dawe contributed a sailor’s hornpipe. Bro. J. T. Lighting gave an amusing display of musical versatility in extracting melody from several different instruments and finally by playing the piano and the cornet simultaneously.
