CORONEL AND FALKLAND ISLANDS Coming to Mew Zealand shortly is the naval film, "The Battle of Coronel and Falkland Islands,” made with the co-operation of the British Admiralty rin Xovember 1, 191-1, the battle of Coronel was fought off the Chilian ? o; fst It resulted in the total loss o? the Good Hope and the Monmouth. Tnutwoi-tliy information of the disaster did not reach the British Admiralty until November 5. The Invincible and the Inflexible were immediately detached from the Grand Fleet, hurriedly refitted at Devonport, and, nder Vice-Admiral Sturdee, they sailed secretly for the Falkland Islands on November 11. Other ships were nicked up off the Brazilian coast and tho squadron reached the Falklands “ December 7, a few hours in ad•ance of Von S P ee. . Before nightfall on December 8, the whole German snuadron except the Dresden, was at tte bottom of the sea The value of the Falklands to the Germans lay in the fact that it was an important wireless and coaling station.
