HIS MAJESTY’S
“THE BELLE OF NEW YORK” The final performance of “The Belle of New York” by the Auckland Amateur Operatic Society took place at His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday evening. Enthusiasm ran high throughout the two acts, and at the fall of the last curtain, cheers were given to the principals and chorus for their splendid interpretation of the musical comedy. Streamers, bouquets and gifts were showered on the principals before they left the stage. Messrs F. Earl, president, Colin Muston, musical director, and Captain H. J. Redmond, stage manager, for the society, spoke of the good feeling which prevailed throughout the rehearsals. The acting of the principals and the work of the chorus left nothing to be desired, while the dancing compared favourably with that of any professional company. The setting of the comedy and the dressing were alike pleasing. The society was well rewarded by crowded audiences each night for its enterprise in producing “The Belle of New York.”
