LAY-BY SYSTEM
PRAISED BY ROTARIAN "The instalment system has proved itself sound and satisfactory from the consumer’s point of view,” said Mr. H. T. Thomas in an address on The Practical Side of Instalment Selling,” to the Rotary Club to-day. The speaker said that the system had made good in. the face of bitter opposition. There was not one inherent weakness in it; the charges raised against it were usually the fault of a trader or a consumer. The old credit system had many mere serious deficiencies. CONDITION OF INDIA A short address on India was given by the Rev. H. W. Whyte, of South India. He said that the country v.-as in a state of evolution, the old systems being undermined by the . Western ways. The British owed to India ihe completion of the great task to which they had put their hand. The country wanted an extension of political rights, but it would have to lie protected inside and outside until the great work of uniting the many races was complete.
