WET SEPTEMBER

WORST FOR 76 YEARS “A very wet, stormy month, with the rainfall 4.28 inches above the average,” is how the official Government observer sums up the weather Auckland has experienced during the past month. According to meteorological observations made at the Albert Park observatory, the month’s sunshine was eohsiderably below the average. Numerous disturbances occurred during the month, the one which commenced on September 22 being the most severe, westerly gales continuing for five days. Thunderstorms occurred on September 7, 16, 23, 24, and 25.

Last month was the wettest September that has been recorded for the past 76 years. The total rainfall was 7.84 inches, as against last year’s total of 4.31 inches, and an average of 3.56 inches. The maximum fall for any 24 hours was recorded on September 6, when 1.47 inches fell. The barometer was high during the month, with a variation of 1.016 inches. The mean reading was 29.834 inches, while yesterday it rose to 30.426 inches, and on September 25 fell to 29.41 inches. The mean maximum temperature in the shade for the month was 59 degrees, and the mean minimum 50 degrees. The hottest day was September 21, when the thermometer registered 66 degrees, the lowest temperature, 43 degrees, being recorded on Saturday last.
