POWER BREAKDOWNS
WAITEMATA BOARD PROTEST PUBLIC WORKS BLAMED “These frequent interruptions in power are detrimental to the business of the board. Feople who would put in electric stoves are discouraged, and great harm and inconvenience is caused to poultry farmers and picture theatres, to say nothing of the general public.” This statement was made by Mr. J. W. Hayden, chairman of the Waitemata Power Board, at to-day’s meeting. His remarks arose when a letter of protest from the board to the District Engineer of the Public Works Department at Hamilton was read. Confirmation of the letter by the board was asked. There was a reluctance to switch across at Penrose while llorahora could carry the load. The Diesel engine at Penrose should be kept running so that the alternative supply would be available to take the :oad as soon as the ordinary supply was carrying capacity. Mr. Kennings said a further letter should be sent protesting against these interruptions, and asking that the engine at Penrose be kept running through peak load hours. Mr., Skeates said that many people who were building houses were being advised to get gas installed. It was decided that the chairman and engineer wait upon the Public Works engineer at Hamilton tomorrow and make a strong protest against the cause of the interruptions.
