NEW CHURCH
ST. LUKE’S, REMUERA ESTIMATED COST, £15,000 For many years the managers of St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, Remuera, have had under consideration the erection of a new church building, and a definite step in that direction has now been taken. Tentative plans have been drawn up, and the building fund committee is submitting to the congregation proposals for a church, the estimated cost of which is £15,000, including seating, floor covering, heating and laying out of the grounds. However, it would not provide for a new pipe-organ, which it is estimated would cost a further £I,OOO. It is proposed that the whole of the outside walls be built in sandstone with dressed facing and rock-faced courses, and the inside walls be filled with brickwork or master tiles. Apart from the stone, the whole building would be of reinforced concrete pier and beam construction. There would be a seating capacity of 434. The present church is, 63 years old and has been on its present site for 53 years. The first minister, the late Rev. G. B. Monro, in his will, left £SOO for a new church, and this, together with accrued interest, is now available. Two further gifts of £ 500 have since been made, and a further sum of £I,OOO has been promised as soon as tlie building is commenced. It is proposed to put the work in hand as soon as the £IO,OOO mark is in sight.
