BUILDING GUTTED
BLAZE AT WESTPORT Press Association WESTPORT, Sunday. A fire at about midnight gutted a building comprising two shops and dwellings and owned by Mr. J. Carmine. The building was occupied by Mr. J. W. King, fruiterer and confectioner, and by Mr. and Mrs. Shrives, the latter using the front portion for a dressmaking and millinery establishment. The flames extended to the Westport ‘•News” office, which was also damaged by fire and water- Messrs. Bailie and Company’s store on the other side, separated by about 12ft from the buring buildings, was saved. The insurance on Mr. King's stock and fittings is £350, and on Mr. and Mrs. Shrives’s stock and furniture, £4OO. The Westport “News” building, machinery and stock is insured for £2,000.
