WHEN CATTLE TRAVEL
S.P.C.A. STEPS IN PREVENTION OF SUFFERING The bulls that were to have been shipped recently on tiie Maui Uomare were not provided with sufficient space, according to Mr. J. Hollington. inspector of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, who reported to a meeting of the executive he l d during the week. Lie had stayed on the wharf all day, and finally the animals were taken back to Westfield, where they remained for a week. They were then shipped by the Tofua, proper accommodation being provided. He reported also that as a result of the society’s recent recommendations, notices are now being posted up at all stations enjoining compliance with regulations against overcrowding of trucks in connection with the “bobby veal” traffic. Arrangements for Animal Welfare Week, to be observed throughout New Zealand at the end of next month, were also discussed. It was decided that an effort should b® concentrated on the circulation of special literature and the issue of an appeal to all children to join the junior branch of the society. Headmasters are to be asked to co-operate in the holding of Pet’s Day in schools.
