PERSONAL.—Captain J. Bruce has rejoined the Kairanga, relieving Captain J. G. Watson for instructions.

Mr. G. W. Evans is rejoining the Sussex after completion of holidays, relieving Mr, C. Burgess, who will await orders at Wellington.

»Mr. F. D. Johnson, who has been on sick leave, recently rejoined the Corinna as chief officer, Mr. ,S. C. Angus coming ashore for further orders.

Mr. W. H. C. Millward is being appointed second officer of the Sussex, relieving Mr. J. W. Thomson for orders.

Mr. V. Miller has joined the Iviwitea at Sydney as third officer, relieving Mr. J. Dunc'an, who is proceeding to Auckland for holidays.

Mr. R. Allison lias been appointed third officey of the Kurow, vice Mr. R. B. Steere, who is transferring to the Ivomata in a similar capacity.

PAKEHA SAILS FRIDAY.—L. D. Nathan and Co. advises that the Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Pakeha, now completing her loading at Auckland, leaves here at daybreak on Friday for London, via Montevideo and Teneriffe.

lONIC DELAYED.—Advice has been received by L. D. Nathan and Co. that the White Star liner lonic is meeting with bad weather, and -is now expected to arrive at Wellington to-morrow morning from London and Southampton. Passengers for Auckland are expected to arrive here on Thursday morning, and baggage is coming forward by tlie Waipiata, due here about Friday. The lonic is due at Auckland next Tuesday to complete her discharge and to commence her loading for her return voyage.

AORANGI CONTINUES VOYAGE.—In continuation of her voyage from Sydney to Vancouver, via ports, the Union Company’s Royal Mail liner Aorangi left Auckland this morning, taking the following passengers from New Zealand: —

GALLIC SAILING. —At daybreak tomorrow L. D. Nathan and. Company hopes to dispatch the White Star steamer Gallic from Auckland for New York, Boston, Halifax, Avonmouth, Glasgow, and Liverpool, via Panama.

TEKOA LEAVES NEW YORK. —The New Zealand Shipping Company has been notified by cable that the Tekoa left New York on September 19 for London, in continuation of her voyage from Auckland. The vessel left- Auckland on August 10.

GOLDEN STATE DUE. —Although no radio message has been received by Henderson and Macfarlane, the American steamer Golden State is expected at Auckland to-morrow from the Pacific Coast with cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, and Dunedin.

MANUKA AT MELBOURNE. —CabIed news has been received by the Union Company that the Manuka arrived at Melbourne at 8 p.m. on Thursday from Bluff. The vessel is scheduled to leave again at 10 a.m. to-morrow for Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton and Wellington.

SANFORD, LTD.’S PURCHASE The Hull trawler Humphrey has been purchased by Sanford, td., to replace the Thomas Bryan, which was wrecked near Cape Colville lasts June. The Humphrey is the same size at the Thomas Bryan, and is being fitted out at Hull for her voyage to New Zealand.

MAUI POMARE DUE FRIDAY.— Due at Auckland on Friday morning from Niue Island and Apia, Samoa, via Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Wellington. the Government motor-ship Maui- Pomare leaves here the following day at 2 p.m. for Norfolk Island. Spedding, Ltd., will act as the local agents. ANTONIO TO-NIGHT. —Due In the stream at Auckland this evening, the steamer Antonio berths to-morrow morning at the King’s Wharf to unload the local portion of her Morocco phosphates, under the agency of Henderson and Macfarlnne From here the vessel proceeds to Lyttelton to complete discharge.

RUAHINE LEAVES PAN AM A.—Cabled n€fws has been, received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that its liner Ruahine arrived at Panama last Wednesday from London and Southampton, and sailed again on Thursday for Wellington and Lyttelton. The vessel is due at Wellington on October 10. LIONEL FROM TEXAS Messrs. Robt. Millar and Co. advise that the Norwegian motor-ship Lionel, -which sailed from Galveston, Texas, on September 10, is expected to reach Auckland toward the middle of October. The vessel has a full cargo of sulphur for discharge at Auckland, New Plymouth, Adelaide, and Port Lincoln.

KINT/RE AT LYTTELTON.—Henderson and Macfarlane have been advised that the steamer Kintyre arrived at Lyttelton last evening from Auckland to complete her discharge of Nauru phosphates. She sails on Thursday for Westport, -where she bunkers before proceeding to Queensland to load sugar for Home.

TURAKINA DELAYED. Further wireless advice from the New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Turakina states she has been delayed by stormy weather and expects to reach Auckland at 10 o'clock to-morrow morning. The vessel is from Liverpool, and has general merchandise from West Coast ports of Great Britain for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff.

JAPANESE TRANS -PACIFIC SERVICE SUBSIDY. —The Japanese Parliament, it is understood, has approved an appropriation of 1,700,000 yen to be paid as a subsidy for a regular service of passenger steamers between Hong-Kong and Seattle, via Japanese ports. So far the company to run the service has not been appointed, but there is every probability that the Nippon Tusen Kaisha will be selected. The directors of' that company, it is stated, have postponed the ordering of steamers for its European services because, should it be granted, the subsidy for the Seattle service it would be obliged to build new vessels for the latter. The Japanese Government desires that three new motoi'-ships of 10,000 tons each should be built for the Hong-Kong Seattle service, in addition to which two vessels -would be withdrawal from other lines. According to the Government plan there would be 17 sailings per annum on the new service, which would compete with the services of the Dollar Line and the Blue Funnel Line.

MAHENO ARRIVES. —The Union Company’s intercolonial passenger steamer Maheno arrived in the stream at Auckland shortly after 10.30 o’clock this morning from Sydney, and later berthed at the Prince’s "Wharf to land her passengers, mails, and cargo.
